Friends of City of Rocks supports monthly Star Parties at the City of Rocks State Park which are held on the Saturday closest to date of the New Moon. This event is free and open to the public. In April 2018, Friends adopted part of Hwy 61 and holds clean-up days to keep this highway, and the entrance road to the park, beautiful and free of trash. Friends members collect, split and bundle firewood to be sold to campers in the Park. We also have a Friends Store located in the Visitor Center that sells t-shirts and camping items. All funds generated from these sales go to enrich and preserve the Park. Plans for the upcoming year include improvements to the botanical garden, laying mulch and planting native plants; painting fences and the Visitor Center shade structure; and development of a new video about the City of Rocks State Park. General business meetings are held four times a year with lecture presentations on birds of City of Rocks, snakes, insects, etc. This is a small organization currently with approximately 25 members. All active members receive a free annual day pass to the City of Rocks State Park when they join. We are looking for new members and volunteers. City of Rocks State Park was recently voted the most memorable state park in New Mexico. Please join us in our efforts to preserve this area for all of those who want to enjoy the natural beauty of City of Rocks.
