Friends of City of Rocks supports monthly Star Parties at the City of Rocks State Park which are held on the Saturday closest to date of the New Moon. This event is free and open to the public. In April 2018, Friends adopted part of Hwy 61 and holds clean-up days to keep this highway, and the entrance road to the park, beautiful and free of trash. To help raise money for the park, Friends members collect, split and bundle firewood which is sold to campers. We also have a Friends Store located inside the Visitor Center that sells t-shirts and camping items. All funds generated from these sales go to enrich and preserve the Park. In 2019, Friends funds helped paint fences and the Visitor Center shade structure. They also helped purchase paint for the two ranger houses as well as put on on a new metal roof for the pump house. A new video was developed by a friend volunteer and is currently being shown at the Visitor Center. Friends sponsored several field trips in 2019, including one on winter plants. In 2020, Friends hopes to install upgrades to irrigation in the botanical garden, lay mulch and purchase and plant native plants. Friends will continue to sponsor educational field trips throughout the year. General business meetings are held four times a year with lecture presentations on birds of City of Rocks, snakes, insects, etc. This is a small organization currently with approximately 25 members. All active members will receive a free annual day pass to the City of Rocks State Park when they join. We are looking for new members and volunteers. City of Rocks State Park was recently voted the most memorable state park in New Mexico. Please join us in our efforts to preserve this area for all of those who want to enjoy the natural beauty of City of Rocks.
